City to Surf II

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

Well i finished. I felt really good thru out the whole race. I did get a small stich for a bit, and a bit of muscle cramp, damn calves and bitumen don’t agree. I tried to run on the grass as much as possible. The weather, oh how i love thee, but really did you have to piss down cats, dogs, buckets and firetrucks full of water. I haven’t been that wet in ages. I think by the end of the race, i was carrying about 3 kg more, just from water in my shoes and in my shirt. Luckly i wore my waterproof cycling pants. Alas they aren’t that waterproof, just dry really quick, so i was soaked to the bone. It was the best run i have been on, i felt like i could have kept going for another 2-4 km. I was pumping, the hills that people said were killers, were like bumps in the horizion. I tried to sprint out the last 2km, i went a bit early. I so i slowed down a bit more, then in the last 500-600 metres, i went for the full sprint. I was flying past heaps of people. I still felt great until about 50m from the line, as i was weezing, and finding it hard to breath, so i pushed harder. I then though,

“mmmm, maybe i should slow down cause i don’t want to drop dead just before finishing”

So i slowed down abit, helped though to have been blocked in so i couldn’t overtake.

I want to do it again, maybe not today but in a few weeks. It was fun. I did get my time, although it will be adjusted later on, i did 12km in 1 hr 03 mins 37 sec. I’m hoping that comes down to around the 58 min or so mark. I will then be over the moon, and jumping toward the sun. :P

I jumped on the bus back to town, and talked to a guy who works for the City of South-Perth in the Parks and Gardens area. Nice guy, so it looks like i have a contact there now, sweet. I drove home after getting changed in the carpark. Now i need to sleep, cause im buggered. I called in sick to work as well, don’t think i could talk to people now. I’m sleepy, so I will now head off to the land of Noddy and Big Ears and the Big Red Car.

Exercise is great Champions, you should try it :)

City to Surf

Friday, August 26th, 2005

Well, the time is apon me where i must go and try and kill myself in a 12km “fun run” Sure it will be fun, almost 5 thousand other people running to, at least i will be overtaking lots of slow people. That should boost my ego up a bit. I think i should get in around the 1hr mark. Anything less will be great. Although i haven’t gone for a run in the last few weeks, to busy with work, study and other things. I really should have gone for a run this arvo, but instead buggered around on my PC and chatted on IRC. Oh well guess i will make it, might be a little bit slower than i hoped. I’ll update you guys when i find out what time i did. I am meant to be going to work after running, but i don’t think that will happen. I think that i will call in sick or something. I have tried to give someone else the shift, but no one wants it. I really don’t want it. I also just got a new job, but that is a different post.

If anyone that lives in perth, wants to see lots of sad people running, you know where to go. My number in the race is 3238. Watch out for me :)

Exercise is the devil, i love the devil champions :)

Avon Decent

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

I went up to watch people shoot over rapids today in a white water race called the avon decent. It was quite fun, my friend Abby was in the race, she was towards the back of the field, but i still gave her a big cheer. I also did the same with her mum too, as she was right behind her. They decided to go over the side where there was an actual rapid, but there just wasn’t enough water for them to get down without bouncing around in there kayaks.
The fun was had earlier in the morning when people were trying to shoot the rapids, well they were going over the poly-pipe. It is just like irrigation pipe, lade out over the rapids, for the power boats and kayaks to go over. This is because the water level would be too low for them to get over without this there. Many more boats would be damaged without this.
It was a nice day, i managed to have about 5-6 naps thru out the day, cause the sun was so warm it sent me to sleep. Plus i sat up last night talking on IRC, till around 2.30am then got up at 7am. I love that so much, best part of my day, esp after work too.

The reason i went to watch the avon decent is because i want to do it next yr, with any luck i will have a kayak in the next few months. I can then start practicing all the safety moves that i might need. I also want to do the hawksberry classic, which is a 111km race that is run over 24hrs. Extreme sorta sport, but looks like so much fun. Hopefully i can get into that as well. The avon is over 2 days and is like 130km.

I will kayak in a race one day, champions

Not so good

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

Well this is bad, i’ve done it this time. Totally screwed things up.
I forgot to have a drink before my run this morning and walked about 2/3 of the way. I knew i shouldn’t have eaten that nurtri-grain before going for a run. Gave me an almighty cramp. I also found out that i didn’t drink any water before leaving home, so that didnt help either. I wasn’t happy jan. My joints all seized up and it was hard to run, damn Calf muscles with lack of water to help them move.
I’ll get them one day, that i promise champions.

10k in hell

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Well i had my 10k run today, i did it in a time of 52:45mins. Not bad, but still over what i had set myself. I wanted to do it in around 45-50 mins. I think i went out to fast in the start, as i was right near the front, where all the fast people were. I just had to get into my groove and sit there. Hard though when you are being overtaken by ever imaginable person in the race. I felt as though i was coming last, well at least a race for last. It was good to know that i didn’t come in last. My mum and Dad came down to watch me run, which was nice of them. It is my first race since i did the Sun Herald Olympic run back last year. I got a time of 56:45min in that one. So i guess that i have to look at the positive side of things, i did beat my previous time, but not by much. I want to enter the City to Surf 2005 now, that is a 12k. If i can do that in the same/similar time i would be over the moon. I mean, damn i was hoofing it, but i need to work on technique a bit as well. Apparently i don’t use my full stride. Things can get better. All my friends say that the time that i did it in was really good, but alas im not happy. Cause i know that i can do better!! Well i have to get ready for my 12k run on Wednesday. I wouldn’t mind having some company, so give me a shout if you feel upto it, by posting a comment. I must be one of those people that show grit on there faces as i got comments from every marshall, giving me encouragement. I love getting encourgement, you feel so special when it happens. :)

Run like the wind, i know someone famous said that, but boyi was running like a rainy day, champions

West Coast Supporters appaling behaviour

Saturday, July 16th, 2005

You read it right people, West Coasters are dog supports. There is no need to boo the other team when they get a goal. That is just plain UNSPORTSMAN LIKE. I have witnessed it first hand and also watched all matches that have been aired on TV, the outcome has been the same each time. A disgraceful behaviour by the supporters. I’m sure you want your team to win, there is nothing wrong with that. I draw the limit at the booing. I know that we are in the west, and meant to be around 20yrs behind everyone else in the country. I just hope that we can get supporter attitudes to change faster than that.

Wake up and take a look at your selves West Coast Supporters. There is no need for it.

Kayaking

Friday, June 3rd, 2005

I have just taken up this sport. IT is the best thing ever. I have wanted to do it for ages. Finally had a chance with a friend- Abby. I am in a 415, which i am told is a log of a kayak, but great fun. Her family is kinda short, and i am kinda tall, so the paddles are a bit out of reach (short) but it is so much fun. I went last Friday and this Friday as well. I have always wanted to go on a trip up the West Coast of Australia since i saw an article some 5 years ago in Australian Geographic. It wasn’t about that exactly more like people traveling up the east coast of Australia from Rockhampton to Cape York, or something like that. I am getting straighter now, it has been 2 weeks and it is pissing me off that i can’t go in a straight line. I might have figured that bit out now. I think it has to do a bit with core stability, and seeing as though i haven’t done any exercise for the last 6 months it is really helping. I got a bit straighter today- hopefully if i do some exercise before coming to paddle i will be able to go in a straight line. I am sore after the paddle, we go out for about 1 hr. Abby reckons that it would cost about $1000 to $1200 to get a good setup. Need to start saving up my pennies. Or i could just keep paddling and borrowing Abby’s kayak!!
