With my side job, as the Golden Active Transport Coordinator. I just realised that i have the power to change peoples lives. That is huge. I am totally scared by the possibility, and thrilled by it at the same time. I can do many things that will impact everyone from Children to adults and seniors.

Changing the way that people move around the town is no small feat. However i was just looking over some notes from a meeting that i recently had, and am very excited for the future of the kids and adults in Golden. Things are starting to change, slowly but change is coming.

So it has been a while. I have been super busy with life. Working my 2-3 jobs, relaxing with my lady. Travelling around Canada and the Globe, it takes its toll on you. I am a second time uncle again, to another little boy. I think i am expecting a little girl soon, from my other sister, which should be super cool. Who knows one of these days i might even gain the balls to ask as well. Time will tell.

I have a super cool new job, well it is only part time or casual but still super cool. It is a job designed to increase peoples use of there bodies, yup active transportation. So it means getting people out of cars and onto foot and bike and any other means. Anything but using the car, it is really interesting and i am looking forward to the challenges that it provides to me. I am planning on having a meeting with my boss and see where she wants me to go. If it is an open slather kind of job, then i will have my work cut out for me. If i have to play a roll in getting people out of cars, that would also be awesome. I would love to see more people out of there trucks and walking and biking. The winter so far has been very mild and it is great to see the number of people we already have. I would like to have more.

Apart from that exciting news, not much more has managed to happen here. Life is moving along quite nicely. I can’t wait for summer and spring to really start cause then we can start growing veggies and stuff. Yum!

Also i have done some admin stuff on the site, so now it is optimised for mobile devices as well. Sweet stuff!

I didn’t realise that it had been that long since i had posed something on here. I know, i know im slack and blah blah. It seems to be something at the back of the mind that you need to do something. Then it gets shuffled off into some other part of the brain. So i have been teaching, Just at the local college, never the less it has been fun, but nerve racking. I have enjoyed it immensely. The Mac course that i taught for 1 night was awesome fun and lots of people enjoyed it. Whilst the class was small in size it enabled me to do what ever i wanted and let the class decide what they wanted to do. I think of it as similar to a changecamp, but i call it Changeteaching. Not sure if there is something out there already by that name, but hey. Lets jump on the Web 2.0 bandwagon and declare something as cool.

I am travelling to the nations capital on Thursday to see the hearts number one fan, my lady. She is super awesome and has been going to the gym getting healthy and stuff, whilst i have been sitting at home, driving the 5 mins to work and doing nothing. So i almost feel like it is a reversal of roles. Kinda weird, i really need to get more active and start running again so i can loose those New Zealand beer handles! I know that a lot of you that have seen them, say they are not big, but im worried and want to get rid of them as it is getting warm to start running again. Watch out, im donning the reflective pants and bandana again!

I think that is about all that has been happening with me for the last little bit, im on Twitter now, so follow me. I have lots of useless stuff to say. Catch ya round on the internets.

Well i have made it in Golden, I am a published critic of the paper. That is right, i got a letter published in the paper. I wrote a letter to the editor, and it got published. How about that. It was in response to this article. So i was disccused at that article. So i got replied and stated my opinion, and it got published. I’m laughing and honoured that they did that. So go and discuss it. It is all in the stimulus of getting Active Transportation into the press and out into the open more.

I follow lots of blogs online and in thru RSS feeds, one i like related to Macs is Macenstein. Whilst visiting the site i came upon this article. It is intersting to see the comments, and how they are not all “oh dang! She is fine” More over they are “Wow, only with a light off” or “Give me a real woman” and my fav, “Don’t put near heat source”. You can read these for yourself thought.

It just struck me as something awesome. People are fed the “perfect” image of what a woman or man looks like, but the majority of people on this site are revolting against said image. Awesome. So basically, im asking has the image of a perfect woman/man gone to far? Are we now seeing “prefection” and going, nope, don’t like it, give me some real woman/man with imperfections? What will all the people that have paid $11000000 do with there fake boobs and lips and other body parts? Do they have to go back to being ugly? Course not, they can be there to look at and turn against. lol. Thoughts?

Over the last few weeks i have been getting lots of compliments. It has ranged from my new found snowboarding abilities to my work as a lift operator even the type of person that i am becoming. One thing that has got me all the time has been the fact that people have said it in the first place. It hasn’t always been Canadians either, Australians and New Zealanders have chipped in. I thought it would be the positive affirmation stuff from the Canadians, kind of like the American thing.

This has surprised me. Why? Well cause of the fact that i normally don’t hear many compliments, it made me think of a post i did ages ago. Don’t get me wrong i do love compliments, they rock! The thing that has shocked me has been the frequency of them and how passionate they are. They are not like ” Your not bad at..” They are positive, like “You rip pretty hard for how long..”etc.

I do value each and every compliment that i get, it makes me feel special. Maybe i should start handing out more? I just don’t want them to appear hollow. The fact that so many compliments have been handed to me over the last few weeks made me scared of the person that i am becoming. Weird? Yeah it is a bit hard to handle receiving the volume that i have. Now i don’t want to appear pigheaded, cause that is the last thing i am. It is just, well not normal. One every few weeks would do me fine. Now let me state that there is nothing about myself that i don’t like at the moment. In fact i am loving life at the moment. It seems as though, most things are going along smoothly. I still have my ups and downs, the news about dad has been a big up. Other situations made life complicated, but still enjoyable. All i can say now is that, i love the compliments, and everything is going so smoothly i love it.

Now i normally don’t put post up in Internet Explorer, mainly because i don’t like Microsoft or the software that they produce or the way they go around with there business. Im an open source kinda guy. So imagine my suprise when i login to WordPress, and see a new little logo down the bottom of my pages. Yep, it is a Browse Happy icon. Basically it is a site designed by someone at WordPress trying to get people to use other browsers. Awesome. Truely. Magnificient. What more can i say, but if you use IE for anything and have a choice, change. If you don’t have a choice ask your lovely Sys Admin person to put it in for you. You will not regret it. Firefox or anything else is much better, faster and complies more with the standards set down by the W3.

Now things are not going according to plan. It was meant to just be a stroke. But at the moment it is turning a whole lot more sour. Dad has had MRI’s, CAT scans, the works. The results? FUCKED. It looks like and inoperable brain tumour at the base of his brain. Hurrah!(Note: Sarcasm!!) 52, and struck down with that. I don’t know many details at the moment. Like what it is called or where abouts in the brain it is, apart from location. The stupid thing is that in Sydney it is a public holiday on Monday, and he can’t be seen until Tuesday. Mmm, i know that Dr’s have lives, but you would think that at least 1 Neurosurgeon would be on call. Luckly my Dr Sister, is over there, throwing her weight around. Funny thing is that she is training to be a surgeon. More renal stuff I hear.
Thanks for all your prays etc, it means heaps. My Girlfriend has been awesome thru it all. She has let me cry on her shoulder many a time. I asked her today if it was all a dream, like an episode of House. Unfortunately not, bugger!

I so wanted to fly over yesterday and just give him a hug and tell him to be strong. SMS just doesn’t do it right. We have decided that if he is going under the knife that we will all fly over. Bugger saving for Canada, family is more important.

I tend to have moments when im all together and stoic. Then other moments i fall apart. A song, a thought, anything can set me off. Guys aren’t meant to be this emotional! Damn it!! yeah right, anyone that can handle this without crying or getting upset, is not in the real world.

So i wait and see what will happen till Tuesday. It is going to be the longest 2 days i think i have ever had to face. I can do it. (That last bit was more for me, positive re-enforcement)

So i was talking to a friend the other day. We somehow got onto the subject of Holland. Then i was asking why they have so many names for the one country. The lucky buggers have 3 names. See im annoyed at this, Australians have Australia as the country. England has the English. The Dutch, NOOO they have to be different, they have Holland and the Netherlands. Then i started asking why they weren’t called Hollandises’ or Netherlandians. No good answers were provided to me. The only answer being, ” They have a sauce named Hollandise, so they can’t be called that.” Thus i am dissapointed in the outcome of our disscussion, and had to drastically change topic, only to bring focus back on it again some 30mins later, over another Pint of English Ale. Still waiting for some good answers.
